The 19-year-old was diagnosed with bowel cancer four years ago.
Stephen Sutton's mother has announced on Facebook the teenager "passed away peacefully in his sleep" on Wednesday morning.
My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14th May.
The ongoing support and outpouring of love for Stephen will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way as it helped Stephen throughout his journey.
We all know he will never be forgotten, his spirit will live on, in all that he achieved and shared with so many.
Love,
His mom x
Sutton made headlines around the world after raising millions of pounds for Teenage Cancer Trust after posting a "final thumbs up" message on his Facebook page on April 22.
The teenager was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 15 and told two years later it was terminal.
He later drew up a bucket list of 46 tasks he wanted to complete before his death to raise money for charity, with an original target of £10,000.
The total he actually raised currently stands at over £3.25 million.
