When Brooklynites Malcolm Brickhouse and Jarad Dawkins were four years old, they decided to start a band after meeting at a birthday party. As sixth graders, the two metalheads were mapping out "fake tours" while performing gigs around New York.
Now in 8th grade and with a bassist, the young band known as "Unlocking The Truth" can add the Apollo Theater, Webster Hall, Coachella and the Vans Warped Tour to their resume, along with a record contract with Sony worth a potential $1.7 million.
According to the New York Daily News, the band — comprised of guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13; bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12 — was discovered in 2012 in Washington Square Park by Eric Clapton's drummer, Steve Jordan, and will produce at least two albums for Sony with the potential of four more if the band is commercially successful.
Since the boys are minors, the papers were filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, which promises the middle school trio an advance of $60,000 for their first recording with the potential of a second record netting them an advance up to $350,000.
