9 Of The Most Powerful Feminist Characters Currently On TV

Ovaries before brovaries, right?

Leslie Knope - Parks and Recreation

Leslie Knope - Parks and Recreation

Leslie Knope is one of the most passionate and most powerful ladies on television. Not only is she devoted to her work as the Midwest Regional Director of the National Parks Service, but she also dedicates most of her life to empowering other women. She's even the founder of the Pawnee Goddesses, a local girl scout troop whose motto is: "I am a goddess, a glorious female warrior. Queen of all that I survey. Enemies of fairness and equality, hear my womanly roar. Yeah!" Some of Leslie's role models include Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Lisa Simpson - The Simpsons

Lisa Simpson - The Simpsons

Lisa Simpson might only be in second grade, but she's wise beyond her years. This budding pre-teen is a vocal feminist who strives for intellect and equality. She spends her days reading, writing, and trying to educate her family and friends about feminism. Lisa's biggest role models are women who are brainy, beautiful, and want to make the world a better place.

Virginia Johnson - Masters of Sex

Virginia Johnson - Masters of Sex

Is there anyone that doesn't want to be Virginia Johnson? Not only is she beautiful, but she is ridiculously smart and so comfortable in her own skin and sexuality that her confidence radiates. Virginia takes to arguing in favor of women's rights, as if she knew the prevalence of sexual discrimination would still dominate today. She addresses topics which are still (unfortunately) debated today, and illustrates that a woman should have control of her own body. For someone working in such a male-dominated filed, Virginia battles day-in-and-day-out to be treated equally to her co-workers.

Diane Lockhart - The Good Wife

Diane Lockhart - The Good Wife

Diane Lockhart is a tenacious lawyer working as one of the top litigators in Chicago. As the former senior partner of one of the Windy City's biggest firms, Diane fought her way to the top and never backed down against the competition. She once said, "When I was starting out I got one great piece of advice: Men can be lazy, women can’t". She does everything within her power to help other female litigators succeed, especially The Good Wife's protagonist, Alicia Florrick. She is a mentor, a drinking buddy, an inspiration, and she has the most excellent laugh.
