Green Eggs and Ham started as a dare to write a book using only 50 words.
A video from the archives at the University of California, San Diego shows the unique process of Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, in creating his beloved children's books.
When designing the color scheme for his artwork, Seuss indicated the percentages of saturation for a color as well as the colors themselves.
Though the book only uses a few colors, the different shades bring out the full dimensions of the cartoon.
He had very specific thoughts about the colors for his imaginary worlds, including for the bones in his famous green ham.
